The Mental Illness Foundation participate, next February 9th, in the Bell Let’s talk Day
Fighting stigmatization
Stigmatization is a major problem affecting people who suffer from mental illness. This is the main reason two-thirds of those affected do not ask for help. It is caused first and foremost by the population’s lack of information concerning mental illness. It is the result of an attitude problem that brings about prejudice. Finally, it is manifested through a behavioural problem: discrimination. The Mental Illness Foundation is joining forces with a provincial group to implement a set of actions in an effort to counter stigmatization. Its employees and scientific spokespersons will also participate, next February 9th, in the Bell Let’s talk Day, a major national initiative, thereby contributing to shifting the public’s perceptions and attitudes.
