Causes

A combination of factors, particular to each individual, could be at the origin of Alzheimer disease. There are many theories as to how it develops, and researchers are conducting research in various areas, including:

  • Family history, to better understand the hereditary link to this disease;
  • The human body, to determine if there is a chemical imbalance, an accumulation in the brain of substances that are toxic to neurons (amyloids, free radicals, etc.), an immunodeficiency, etc.
Among the factors that increase the risk of developing Alzheimer disease are: age, genetic factors, cranial traumas, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
