In Quebec, at any given time, one person in six suffers from some form of mental illness. (Plan d'action en santé mentale 2005-2010-La force des liens, Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec) Managers will therefore face this situation eventually. 85% of middle managers think that helping their employees deal with mental illness is part of their duties; however, 81% of middle managers say they have not received proper training to recognize the manifestations of mental health problems among their employees and to take action in such a situation (University of Michigan, Depression Centre, 2004).
But how do you bring up such a delicate topic with an employee? Nothing’s Working? training equips managers to recognize the signs of a problem of mental health among employees, to be able to talk to them about it, but above all, to manage the situation with the employee and the team. Without playing therapist, the manager will be able to refer employees suffering from mental illness to the proper resources and introduce protective measures in the workplace.
Mental health problem at work? Your management is part of the solution
Mental illness is a growing social problem: people are increasingly affected by it and workers are no exception. Taboos, often related to a misunderstanding of mental illness, prevent people from seeking help. And yet, rapid detection means that people do not suffer as long.
This workshop addresses the problem of mental health at work, more specifically depression, and the management of people who suffer from mental illness, including prevention and managing leaves, from when the employee leaves to when he or she returns.
CONTENT OF THE WORKSHOP:
- Description and scope of the problem
- The role of work in mental health
- Signs and manifestations of mental illness in the workplace
- Management of the person affected
Personality disorders: how to manage these unique employees
According to Health Canada (2002), 6% to 9% of people suffer from a personality disorder, which generally manifests itself at the end of adolescence. The rate of suicide and accidents among these people is much higher than among the population in general. Violence and substance abuse is also higher among these people.
In the workshop on personality disorders, Nothing's Working? helps managers learn to identify different personality disorders and to react to people who suffer from them.

- Personality disorder or character trait?
- Signs and manifestations of personality disorders in the workplace
- Management of a person with a personality disorder
